The Beauty of Alignment

A sunset glowing over a local park

I've found that I really love watching sunsets. Probably because in years gone by, I never got to see any of them.  It's an odd thing to say, I know, but it's true.

In my decades in performance motor sports, business would boom in the warm weather months when everyone wanted to be outside enjoying their sport. That meant I was inside waiting on customers till evening, handling their orders, closing up shop, setting up the computer's nightly processing, and oh yes, as an afterthought, making dinner happen.

The craziest part about this lifestyle that controlled me from morning to night is that I never intended to go into this industry at all.

Sure, I learned useful skills along the way. But for all the experience and growth gained, it was all against the grain for me — never in alignment with what my goals were, what my giftings were... in short, with who I was.

After a series of major life upheavals, I seized the opportunity to change my lane.

Now I honor my natural leanings toward teaching, coaching, writing, and speaking... all of which I love. My life experience, combined with my ability to make the complex simple, creates valuable guidance that helps others build their own aligned lives and businesses.

The heartfelt words of appreciation they send me in emails, texts, and our live calls mean so much. They're a reminder that when I bring all of who I am, I can deliver the most value to the world. And make a true difference.

Even if I'm working hard or putting in long hours to achieve a goal, that old heavy sense of existential exhaustion is no longer there. Things are clearer now... lighter.

Now that I've chosen a path, a way of working, and a way of being that's in alignment with how my mind and heart operate, my work can be done on a completely different schedule. Now dinner can be at dinnertime instead of 9:30 at night. Now I can go to a local park, take a walk, and stand in the glow of a sunset if I want (see my photo above). Travel occurs more often now, so I get to see many more lovely sunsets than ever before.

Author Itayi Garande said it beautifully: “When your mind, choices, and behaviour align, life stops feeling like a struggle and starts feeling like a flow.”

That, my friend, is the beauty of alignment. If it's not yet at the heart of how you live your life, I sincerely encourage you to take the first step toward honoring your giftings and goals. You'll be glad you did.
